Handheld Ultrasonic Flow Meters
Handheld ultrasonic meters measure flow non-invasively by clamping sensors onto the outside of a pipe.
Working principle
- Two ultrasonic transducers are strapped on the pipe wall (transit-time method).
- Signal travelling with the flow arrives earlier than the signal against it.
- The time difference is converted to flow velocity and volume flow.
- No pipe cutting, no process shutdown needed for measurement.
Selection data
| Parameter | Typical range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Pipe sizes | DN15–DN600 typical | Clamp-on, exterior wall |
| Media | Clean liquids | Needs sound-conducting wall |
| Accuracy | ±1–3 % of reading | Depends on pipe and coupling |
| Power | Battery, portable unit | Field audits and balancing |
| Data | Log to internal memory / PC | For temporary measurement campaigns |
When to choose handheld ultrasonic
Temporary surveys, energy audits, verifying inline meters, and locations where cutting into the pipe is impossible.
