Coriolis Flow Meters
Coriolis meters measure mass flow directly by detecting the phase shift of a vibrating tube through which the fluid flows.
Working principle
- Fluid passes through one or two vibrating tubes.
- Moving mass in the tube experiences a Coriolis acceleration, twisting the tube.
- Sensors measure inlet vs outlet phase difference — proportional to mass flow rate.
- Tube frequency gives fluid density; volume flow = mass ÷ density.
Selection data
| Parameter | Typical range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Measured media | Liquids, slurries, gases | Works at high viscosity too |
| Accuracy | ±0.1–0.5 % of rate | Among the highest for inline meters |
| Density measurement | Yes, continuous | Enables batch control by mass |
| Output | 4–20 mA, pulse, Modbus, HART | Mass, volume, density, temperature |
| Turndown | Up to 100:1 | Wide rangeability |
When to choose Coriolis
Custody transfer, dosing by mass, fluids with varying density or viscosity, and any line where both mass and density are needed from one device.
